Bus-stop incident statistics

Earlier broader crime and combined bus-premises figures do not establish a bus-stop-only count or trend. They are not used as bus-stop statistics on these pages.

Underreporting

The statement “50% of crimes are not reported” is too broad. ABS estimates vary by offence, population and period. The national physical-assault reporting rate was 56% in 2024–25 and 49% in 2023–24; the corresponding shares who did not report their most recent incident were 44% and 51%.

Women’s safety after dark

The nine-in-ten finding concerns young women surveyed about Sydney after dark in April 2018. It is not a bus-stop-specific result or a current estimate for all women.
